How to Care for Artificial Jewellery So It Lasts
Artificial jewellery lets you match every outfit without spending a fortune — but its finish needs a little care. The good news is that it only takes a few seconds a day. Follow these habits and your favourite pieces will keep their shine for many more weddings, Eids and dinners.
1. Jewellery on last, off first
Put your jewellery on after perfume, hairspray, lotion and makeup have dried. These products contain alcohol and oils that dull plating and loosen stones. At the end of the day, take your jewellery off before you wash your face or change.
2. Keep it away from water
Remove rings, bangles and earrings before washing hands, doing wudu, bathing, swimming or exercising. Water and sweat are the biggest reasons plating fades and metal darkens. If a piece does get wet, pat it dry straight away with a soft cloth.
3. Wipe before you store
After every wear, gently wipe each piece with a soft, dry cloth — a clean cotton dupatta corner or a spectacle cloth works perfectly. This removes sweat and skin oils before they settle in.
4. Store pieces separately
Never throw everything into one box. Stones scratch plating, and chains tangle. Keep each piece in its own pouch, a small zip bag, or a box with compartments. For kundan and pearl sets, lay them flat so the threads and settings are not strained.
5. Fight humidity
Pakistani summers and monsoons are tough on jewellery. Store your pieces in a cool, dry cupboard rather than the bathroom or a window ledge. Dropping a silica gel sachet (the little packets that come with shoes and bags) into your jewellery box helps absorb moisture.
6. Clean gently — never scrub
If a piece looks dull, wipe it with a cloth very lightly dampened with plain water, then dry it immediately. Avoid toothpaste, lemon, baking soda and jewellery dips — they are too harsh for plated finishes and can strip the colour.
7. Give your favourites a rest
Rotating between a few pairs of earrings or bangle sets means no single piece takes all the wear. It is also a lovely excuse to try something new from our New Arrivals.
